PROPEL is the first of a new category of products offering localized, controlled drug delivery directly to the sinus tissue. Intersect Propel Stents are inserted by a physician to maintain the surgical opening, the spring-like implant expands to prop open the ethmoid sinus and gradually delivers an advanced corticosteroid with anti-inflammatory properties directly to the sinus lining where it’s needed most as the implant dissolves.

Frequently Asked Questions
PROPEL® stents work directly at the surgical site by keeping the sinus open and delivering medication at the same time. Unlike sprays or oral steroids that affect the whole body, PROPEL® releases a controlled dose of corticosteroid exactly where inflammation occurs, helping improve healing and reduce complications after sinus surgery.
Most patients do not feel the stent once it’s in place. The implant is lightweight and designed to conform naturally to the sinus anatomy. As swelling decreases, patients often notice improved breathing rather than discomfort.
The stent is fully absorbable and typically dissolves on its own over several weeks. There is no need for removal, and it gradually releases medication as it breaks down.
In many cases, PROPEL® can reduce or eliminate the need for oral steroids after surgery. Your physician may still recommend saline rinses or other supportive treatments, but localized drug delivery helps minimize reliance on systemic medications.
PROPEL® stents are commonly used for patients undergoing endoscopic sinus surgery, especially those with chronic sinusitis, nasal polyps, or a history of post-surgical inflammation. Your ENT physician will determine if it’s appropriate based on your sinus anatomy and medical history.
